Bullying: An Answer to Consider

bullying by Keli M. McLaurin

Bullying is an act that should be talked about more during this age of social media. There are various types of bullying, however, cyberbullying seems to have become the most dangerous as of late. I’ve seen plenty of my clients become victims to bullying, whether in school or with a friend turned foe.

Being in the position to advocate for bullied victims is something I don’t take lightly. Individuals who choose to bully someone can be a learned behavior which should be stopped. Some bullying can be stopped.

In order to prevent bullying from continuing, we must raise awareness within our communities, especially within friend circles and throughout the conversations we have. It’s imperative to raise awareness of what bullying is, how it occurs and at what point trauma comes to be associated with it. For example, suicide, depression, and anxiety can be caused when someone is bullied and due to these occurrences, further trauma is also prevalent among these individuals.

As a part of raising awareness, we should be more kind to others, practice self-awareness and choose peace when settling conflicts. If you happen to be a victim of bullying, please don’t hesitate to speak up and tell someone you trust about your experience. October is recognized as National Bullying Prevention month and you can wear pink in support of anti bullying efforts. After all, “Strong people stand up for themselves but the strongest people stand up for others.” Choose to spread love today. Promote anti bullying efforts in your everyday activities.
